Another Appointment, Another Dissapointment
The doctor put his hand on her arm and said gently, “You or the baby will survive. Not both. I’m sorry.”
Cathy hasn’t heard that one yet from her doctor and this time, she could actually not survive. She’s used to being sad and disappointed because this is the fourth child that will not make it; it could’ve been four siblings. She knows that Paul her husband will just break after he hears the news. Each time she has became pregnant, Paul hopes the baby will survive reminiscing on the pain he went through with the hopes of the last baby making it. He was just excited for his child. He had the dreams of his little boy playing baseball, just like he did when he was younging. Or the hopes of just having a baby girl who he’ll always protect. Main point- he just finally wanted a kid to name his who he’ll love with no limit. Cathy is just heartbroken. She may have not even given birth to the babies but yet for her, she’s gotten to know them while they’re in her womb. The pain, the tickles, the movements she felt from the children, she slowly was getting to know them before their first breathe on Earth.
“Can you do anything about this miscarriage, doctor?” she asked her doctor in her emotional weary eyes.
“Unfortunately, I can't, Catherine. Your baby has such a horrible birth defect that going into labor is a risk. I'm very sorry,” the doctor said as he was sighing and slowly getting up from this maroon colored spinning chair. “Once again, I'll see you in two months. Alright?”
“Yes. Thank you so much, Doctor. I appreciate it… really,” Cathy said as she gave a fake small grin to him.
“No problem and hey, don’t stress it. We’ll find a solution. Take care, okay?” The doctor beamed his Colgate looking teeth while he held Cathy’s hand for a couple of seconds. The door tardily shut after his exit from the room.
Cathy just sat there and couldn't imagine how she would address this to Paul. She knows how excited he gets whenever she heads to the doctor for a check up but she just can’t make up the words. She pulls her iPhone out of her pocket, which reads 3:47 pm. She reads the couple notifications from her Gmail. She tries to ignore the fact of Paul right now but there it is… A text from Paul saying,
Hey hun. I just left my mother’s house so call me whenever your appointment is done.
Love you *kissy face emoji*
Repeat after repeat Cathy reread Paul’s text. The room was filled complete silence although she could hear and feel her heart beating. The next time she checks her phone the time reads 4:00 pm. Her phone vibrates and reads…
Paul
