“Ok I have my socks, underwear, clothes, glasses. What am I missing?” Ben said aloud to himself.
“Duh my bathing suits!”How could I almost forget something like my bathing suits to the beach?”
Ben made his way to the laundry room which was far away from his room. Nearly out of breath from the walk across his gigantic house, he looked around. He grabbed his neon green and baby blue swim shorts then made his way back to his room. As he finished packing he dragged his small suitcase down the staircase and through the dining room. He was packing some snacks from the kitchen and then was on his way to Jake, his Best friends house. Before he got out the door, he passed his dad's room. Ben looked at the time. It was 3:00 on Friday so his dad got off work, investigating crimes, earlier than usual. His dad was plopped down on his Ben watching his favorite police show. He looked the same as he always did, sad.
Ben grabbed his suitcase and swung the front door open and stepped outside. He looked down at his shoes, turned around, and walked back in. “B-bye Dad!” Ben shouted shakily as his voice echoed throughout the house.. Ever since Bens mother died his father has been different towards Ben. He doesn't talk much and always seems to be sad.
“Bye have fun” his father said with no emotion at all in his voice. He didn't even look up from his show.

“I l-love you” Ben hadn't said that since before his mom died but figured since he was going to Longboat Key for the weekend he should.
“Love you son” his dad said with no tone and still didn't look up from the television.
Ben made his way out the door. He was super excited to go away with Jake and his parents. He really liked jakes family. Jakes house was only 3 blocks from Bens. While he was about halfway there a sketchy white van pulled up and came to a stop. Ben froze. His dad had always told him stories like this and they hardly ever ended well. A man stepped out from the van. He was super short, not an inch over 5’2. He was super muscular and tattooed from head to toe.
“Hello,” he said in his deep, raspy voice.
“Um h-hi” Ben was confused
"I’m sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Mr. Hawks. What's yours?”
Ben then remembered what his dad had always told him. Never reveal your secret identity to a possible threat.
“My name is John, John Miles” he bluffed.
“I followed you from a house, it was a house with such elegance, was it your house?”
“Y-Yes” Ben wanted to run for his life, run to jakes, or back to his house, anywhere but here with this stranger, but his legs would not budge.  He stood there  still as a statue
“Wow your parents must have paid a lot of money for that marvelous house, I wonder how much they would pay to get you back” Before Ben could say another word the man had a strong grip on him. He tried screaming but it was no use because nobody was around and there was a cloth in his mouth. He was shoved

into the back of the van and moments after the van started to drive away. “Please let me live” he whispered to himself as tears rolled down his cheek.
Ben was getting shoved from side to side of the dark, cold van. Every time he hit the aluminum indents on the bottom of the van, it made a loud noise. He couldn't see or hear a thing. After about 20 minutes of getting tossed around the back of the van, it rolled to a stop. Moments later the trunk popped open and the man stood right outside.
As the man grabbed Ben’s arms, he  flinched in horror. “Get out of the car” the man snapped. Ben slid his way out of the trunk and placed his feet on the ground. Terror shook his body as he tried to stand up straight. He was shaking head from toe,  terrified, not knowing what was coming next. He  just stood there, looking down at his scraped up tennis shoes.
Ben gained the courage to look up and in his sight was a nice house. Trees surrounded the house. They were beautiful and bright and looked as if they were dancing in the wind. The big
and  beautiful two story brick house almost made Ben forget the awful situation he was in. “Don't attempt to cry out for help because nobody is going to hear  you.” The man took the cloth out of Ben’s mouth. Relief swept over Ben. He turned toward the kidnapper. He must have changed in the front of the van. He was now wearing long pants with dress shoes and a buttoned shirt. His hair was brushed out and had gel in it, holding it perfectly in place. He looked like a normal gentlemen on his way home from work.  He placed his two hands onto Bens shoulders and guided him to the front door.
Ben was walking slowly and looking forward when they suddenly came to a stop. He heard a new sounding voice. He turned his head and saw a friendly looking guy leaning over the fence

"Hello Mr Hawks how are you today?” The neighbor said in a cordial tone
“Uh, good, good how are you?” Mr Hawks stuttered.
“I'm great thanks for asking. And who is this?”
Mr Hawks didn't know what to say.
“My name is John Miles” Ben interrupted
“Well we have to get in the house now but it was nice talking to you” Mr. Hawks said.
To Bens surprise, the house was very nice on the inside. All the walls were painted gray and there were beautiful art works hanging in a perfect order. There was not one thing on the floor or out of place. There were two staircases that met on a second floor right under a huge glass chandelier. Ben was guided to the very back of the house where there was a bookcase. The kidnapper placed a key between two books and the shelf opened. It was exactly like the movies Ben watched. And most of them did not have a good outcome.
"So, this will be your home for a while” the kidnapper said like nothing strand was going on. “Any questions before you go in?” Ben felt like there was a zoo of butterflies swarming him inside.
“Yes, why am I here?” The man grabbed Ben and shoved him down the stairs. Turned the lights off, and shut the door. Ben stood there and thought if he was ever coming back. Tears streamed down his face and he shivered. A light peeped within the door and Ben looked up from the ground. The man was standing there. “I forgot to mention, I will come back here to get you and feed you dinner. Your bed is in that corner” Ben looked to where the man was pointing. He saw a twin sized bed with one sheet in a

dusty old corner of the cold dark room. Next to it were 2 books, shorts, a shirt, and a water bottle. “Enjoy yourself.”
There Ben sat. In a cold, lonely room all by himself. He felt as if he was the only man on the earth. “My dad will notice I'm gone” he told himself. He then remembered something that made his heart drop. His dad thought he was at Long Boat Key for the whole week. He could not stay here for a week. He didn't want to stay here for a week. The night seemed as if it was 5 days long. Ben had no idea if it was day or night. He just sat in his bed trying to fall asleep. A few hours later he woke back up. He had wished he woke up in his comfy bed or at a hotel by the beach with his best friend Jake but he sat there in the same basement.
Two days went by and the only human he came in contact with was the kidnapper when he threw meals into the room and came back  to get the empty plate. Ben was still in shock about this whole situation. He couldn't remember what his comfy bed felt like or what it was like to be with friends and have a good meal. He stopped thinking when he heard footsteps. Mr. Hawks opened the door fast and tied bens hands together. Ben tried fighting back but it was no use.  Then he covered his mouth with duck tape. He shut the bookcase not saying a word and then the doorbell rang. He heard mr. Hawks talking.
“Hello can I help you” he said sounding innocent.
“Excuse me, but your neighbor told us that you kidnapped somebody and brought him in here. He said the boy's name was John Miles.”
Ben froze. He knew that voice. It was his dad. Just hearing his dad's voice immediately calmed himself down.

“No I didn't have anybody. I live here all by myself.” Said Mr. Hawks.
“We are going to have to investigate Sir” said Bens dad.
Footsteps roamed the house for hours. Ben sat there trying to scream for help but he couldn't make any noise. He heard footsteps all over. Some were right by the bookcase.
Please. Lift the yellow book open. Please. Ben thought with all his might. He  wanted someone to find him. He was so close to being saved. He had hope in him.  The footsteps stopped and Ben heard nothing for what seemed like an hour. He lost all his hope. Tears covered his face. Ben stopped. Tears! That's it! The tears seeped down and filled the cracks of the tape that covered his mouth. As this was happening he heard something
“Well, I guess everything is normal here. So sorry that we accused you of kidnapping”
“Oh, it's no problem Sir. Really, it's ok!”
Ben was wildly wiggling his mouth. Just as Ben’s dad was about to leave, the tape fell to the floor and Ben started to yell.
“HEELLLLPPPP, HELLLLP!”
He heard many footsteps rush toward the bookcase as he continued to scream.
“Sir open this bookcase right this second or else you will be arrested!” Bens dad demanded.
Moments later the bookshelf opened up. Ben sat there. He had cuts all over him with his eyes puffy and hands tied up.
“Ben?”
Bens dad rushed to him and untied him. They sat there hugging for what seemed like forever
“You're safe now, you're safe”

Ben sobbed.. He was so relieved that his dad was there and his dad was the only person he wanted to see. As Ben was hugging his dad, the other cops had Mr. Hawks arrested and Ben safely went home.  He got cleaned up and had a nice dinner with his father. His dad told Ben
that he will always be there for him  and ever since then there bond has been tight. Bens father is his best friend.
