The Interview
“Sir… Can you tell me again who did the crime?” He was saying with a heavy southern accent. The prisoner looked bug eyed, and was starting to twiddle his thumbs. He opened his mouth, about to speak, but then shut it a moment later. The man in the overcoat jacket had “McNeally” stitched into a pocket over his heart. His coat had fur to keep him warm from the cold, dark room. The man looked at the walls with some sort of disgust.
He asked again “Please sir. Can yo-” He was interrupted by an abrupt, loud cough.
The prisoner said quickly “I can tell you. Mans name was John Macoine.”
He let it echo before saying more. He started to get a twitch in his arm and said, “Real nutcase. Killed a bunch of people. In a dealership. It was on the news. I was arrested checking out the crime scene.” He pushed back his short, greasy hair and asked “It’s not illegal to check out crime scenes is it?” McNeally calmly looked into his eyes and with a blank stare
He answered “It depends. If the police are there, you should stay away.”
McNeally said “Why do you think Mr.Macoine did what he did?”
The prisoner quickly said “Umm… He was insane?”
“Anything else?” The agent checked his watch
The prisoner gave him another bug eyed expression. The agent got up and announced “ I believe we are done” He opened the door and walked down the hall. A pair of prison guards were waiting for him by the exit. One held out a clipboard with a piece of paper attached to it and a pen. McNeally signed out on the paper the name of who he was visiting.
He wrote down a very simple name.
‘John Macoine’.
