My Tree
I rush down the stairs like my life depended on it. I see mom and dad standing there frozen, eyes locked, not moving, not daring to make eye contact.
“Mom, what happened?” I said sharply wanting a response.
“Look, l-o-o-k.” she said as her words shuttered. She stuck out her arm and pointed her trembling finger to dad. I walk over slowly, it was so strange, because I’ve never seen them so down and act this way.
“What happened?” I say in my head a 1 million times as a walk over to dad.
“Dad what ha-” before I finished, I knew what went wrong. I caught his eyes gazing in the backyard at the treehouse.
“How, how did that happen?” as I screamed in fury and anger. I needed an answer.
“The storm honey, it was so powerful, it shredded it down to pieces.” said dad regretfully with sorrow written all over his face
“It was that strong?” I asked. I thought it was going to be a tiny one, just with a little of rain and winds. At least that is what it said on the news.
“Honey, the storm set the worlds highest wind and fastest wind per hour. The shingles on the rooftop are gone and our house is damaged in some spots. We are lucky we didn't get taken up in the sky with the house.” Said dad organizing his words as he spoke. He topped it off with a little humor and smile at the end.
