I woke up in a fright. I looked at the clock on my nightstand. It read 5:49. I sighed to myself. Another night of restless sleep. I slowly got up and got ready for the day. "I need help. I'm tired of these nightmares. Night after night." I thought to myself. They always happen around this time of the year. I can still picture it in my head. The town I grew up in . Except there's always a heavy fog and nobody is around. It creeps me out. I don't like thinking about my childhood. I've grown estranged from my parents. They don't answer any of my calls. I haven't heard from them in years.
When I finished changing I got in my car and drove to work. While driving I started to feel sleepy. I couldn't keep my eyes open. My eyes felt too heavy. "No!" I shouted. "I have to stay awake. I'm almost at the office. I can take a quick nap there. I just have to stay up and focus on driving." I was only able to fight my drowsiness for so long. Before I knew it,  I was waking up behind the wheel my foot was  still on the gas. I braked hard and pulled onto the side of the road. Breathing hard, I thanked God that nobody was hurt.

I got out of the car and looked at my surroundings. Nothing but farmland for miles. How long was I asleep for? How did I even get here? This didn't  look familiar at all. I pulled out my phone. Great no reception. I got back in my car and decided to drive. See where the road would take me. There had to be a town nearby or at least a house. I just drove for miles. It was 2 hours before I saw a sign. It read welcome to the town of Evendale. "Why did the name seem so familiar," I said out loud to myself. "Oh well, as long as I can find someone there and ask for directions I really don't care I thought." Arriving in the town I felt like I'd been here before. I looked around for ages but I couldn't find anyone. All the stores and cafe's were open though. It's almost like the rapture happened. Exploring the town I saw a house that made me freeze in my tracks. It was the house  I grew up in. I ran up to the door and knocked. "Mom! Dad! Can you hear me? It's me Jake!" I shouted. I kept knocking for at least 5 minutes. Nobody answered. I started to walk back to my car and that's when I saw it. The heavy fog crawling in. It was so thick you could barely see 5 feet in front of you. I started to panic. This was exactly like my dream. I picked up the pace back to my car. I needed to get out of here. Then I heard it. A noise I would never forget. A loud blood curdling screech that I would never forget. I broke into a sprint to my car. I was almost there. I practically threw myself into my car and tried turning it on. "No, no, no, not now." The engine was stalling. "Please, please please turn on. I've got to get out of here."I heard it screech again. I noticed something move from the corner of my eyes. I look up and just stared out the window. It was an abomination. I don't know what else to call it. It was around 3 ft tall with pasty white skin. It was hunched over and you could see its spine protruding it's back. It looked starved. "Oh God. Come on, come on, start already." Finally I was able to get the engine going. I got out of there as fast as possible. I just kept driving I didn't care where I ended up. All I knew was that I had to get as far away from that place as possible.
