In the town’s gazette, the front page read in bold letters: Local High School Freshman Class Donates Canned Soup to Food Bank. In black and white, there was a picture of my entire class holding cans of chicken noodle soup. My dad cut out the article and hung it proudly on the refrigerator.
Keep up the good work sweetie, this is what you should be doing.
The next week the headline read in bold letters: Massive Robbery Takes Place on Jackson Street Thief Still on the Loose. My mom called all of our family and friends and warned them to stay vigilant.
When I move away and start a life that is just my own what headlines will I make?
Renowned Female Scientist Finds a Cure for Cancer. My parents will call me when I’ll be at the laboratory telling me about how they are so proud, and how Aunt Joyce and Uncle Rishi are so proud, and how the whole community is so proud. They’ll post this newspaper clipping amongst the hundreds of other newspaper clippings about me that cover the refrigerator. They’ll say that they miss me and that they will always be proud of me. I’ll be proud of me.
Or
Crazy Homeless Lady Steals Local Resident’s Mailboxes. I will only ever see this headline when stealing newspapers from the dump. This will just be a normal thing that happens from then on, and I’ll collect these newspaper clippings. I will have no clue about how I became this new version of me, but there I’ll be.Crazy and making headlines.

There could be no headlines about me. This could be the only one that ever exists. Just me as one in a group of freshmen. This could be the only mark I will leave in the world. I could just live life as any other average person who goes about their day. I’ll wake up brush my teeth, do my 9 to 5 job, and repeat. What are the chances of making headlines again?
The next week my dad cuts out another newspaper clipping. Local Girl Wins School-Wide Writing Competition. My parents keep telling me how proud they are.
