Stolen
Sherri was at the pharmacy with her stepmom picking up her medicine. Four years ago, sherri was in a car accident with her mom. They were taking a night walk around the neighborhood when a drunk driver swerved and hit them. She was taken to the hospital for medical treatment right away. When she woke up in the hospital, her vision was pitch black. Soon she found out her mother passed away from the accident the night before. She is now a 16 year old girl with lots of medical issues. Her stepmom was just running in to the pharmacy to get the medicine while Sherri cuddled up with a blanket laying down in the backseat with her sunglasses on and her cane laying on the floor.Sherri has been living blind for four years now. The car was left running for Sherri to stay warm. The driver’s side door opened and closed with a big slam. Sherri knew that didn’t sound like her stepmom. Whoever was in the driver's seat took off out of the parking lot really fast.
Sherri heard a manly, deep cough come from the driver of the car. She finally realized it wasn’t her stepmom who returned to the car.”Ahh… who are you!” Sherri yelled to the man as she stood up in the backseat.
The man slammed on the brakes and Sherri jerked forward, hitting the passenger seat. “Who the heck are you! Where did you come from?” The man yelled at Sherri in a deep voice.
“Im Sherri… I was in the the ba-back seat of the car,” She was shaking with fear not knowing what this man was going to do. “Why are you driving my stepmoms car?”
The man was wondering why this girl didn’t make eye contact with him when she spoke. “I umm.. Didn’t know anyone was in this car. It just looked like an empty turned on car that would be easy to steal.” The man said as he watched her through the rear view mirror.
“You're stealing my stepmom’s car! With me in it?” She yelled from the backseat of the car. She was frightened. What was this man going to do with her? She was thinking of all the ways she could escape from this car, “What’s your name?”
No response came from the man. If somehow the girl did escape and go to the cops, he didn’t want his name to be told. The man kept on driving really fast on a dirt road. No cars or sounds have been around for forty miles.
“Can you please take me home, or at least drop me off right here on the side of the road? I’m sure I can find my way home. I am extremely sick and need the medicine my stepmom was picking up for me at the store.” Sherri begged, and tried to sound pathetic and small. She needed the man’s pity.
“No, I can’t just let you go… what if you tell the cops what I look like. I would get caught right away!” He still had no idea that she didn’t know what he looks like.
“I’m blind,” Sherri said in a soft voice. She was looking directly down at her feet as tears started coming down her face. She was thinking about her sickness and how she needs her medicines soon or else she would get sicker and sicker.
The man didn’t know what to say back to Sherri. He thought he was just stealing a car but he ended up kidnapping a very sick blind teenage girl. He kept driving straight on the gravel road for many more miles. No words came out of his mouth. He was just thinking of how she can get home safe without him getting caught and arrested.
All of the sudden the sound of two cars got closer to Sherri’s step mom’s car. The man was too zoned out to pay attention to the cars driving next to him. Sherri couldn’t see but she could sure hear the cars driving around them. She stood up and put her face in the window that she thought the cars were near. She waved her hands back and forth and mouthed the words, “Help me!” The windows were not tinted in her stepmom’s car and hopefully she caught the other drivers attention.
A few miles later sirens sounded from the distance. They caught Sherri’s and the man’s attention. “Dammit… how did they find us?” The man said yelling as he picked up the speed in the car. The sirens got closer and closer and suddenly they were right behind the car. The man pulled over knowing that he would be in big trouble.
Police ran outside the car and to her stepmom’s car. “What’s going on? Wait...are you Sherri?”
“Yes, yes I am!” She said happily. She was relieved that she was finally safe and will be returning home soon. “Please take me home. I am extremely sick and need to take my medicines for the day.”
The police helped her into the backseat of the police car. The man got arrested for stealing a car and kidnapping Sherri. Sherri was finally reunited with her family back home. She was trembling still with fear. She is safe now at home and with her medicines. The stolen car was returned to the family. Sherri experienced the scariest time of her life with fear of not being able to survive and never seeing her family again.
“I am so glad you’re home safe Sherri. I will never leave you in the running car alone again!” Her stepmom said to her. She gave Sherri the longest hug. Everyone was glad she was home.
