Bubba Arango: Cali Chapter 1
Cali
1
Let me say this: being a dog isn't a box of treats. People treat you good and think you're cute, lose patience and treat you shabby. They say I should be man's best friend but let me tell, it ain't like that most of the time. But I try and that counts. I reckon I don't live an interesting life so to speak. Sleeping and eating most of the time. I know it doesn't seem that interesting.
I'm a dog, I will give you that, and I know I may have a little brain but I'm probably a lot smarter and interesting than you may think. You think that the only thing I have in my mind is food, sleeping, and nothing more, but people, what goes on in my own mind is a lot different from what you see and think goes on.
I was born in Atlanta, Georgia with a military family which was conformed by a man name lieutenant Jaramillo, I seriously don't remember his first name, and his wife corporal Mary Bullrich. Which taught me good manners and military training. They shipped me out because they may receive a call back for duty and they shipped to Colombia, where my life of adventure would start. Maybe you're asking: why Colombia? well, they shipped me to Colombia because my owner's grandfather named Carlos Jaramillo lived there in Colombia and maybe they thought someone would like to have me down there in Colombia, now that they have someone they know down there. In a nutshell, I had no more relatives that can take care of me, in the U.S.
The first thing you'll probably what dog race am I? and how my physical structure is. Well from when I was a puppy that's how they call dogs when they are babies, the biggest part of my body was my ears. Then My body grew and everything became equal and my ears weren't the biggest part of my body. My dog breed is Fox Terrier Toy. I am mostly characterized and recognized in the terrier family by my long legs because most of the terrier dogs I see have short legs.
When I was born in Atlanta, Georgia my American family named me Bubba, because of the movie Forrest Gump and for the definition of the word that meant A sweet nick name certain people give to someone that consider a bro. My family said that he was a good man, fought for the country in the movie, and was a good friend to Forest which is what every dog would have to do to be good to his master. Bubba was a good man that fought for his country. In other words that's how I got my name.
I didn't get to know my American family very well. I know that they were marines and they were nice people, organized, and with good manners. When I was in the U.S my days were more organized and short. I ate, walked, played, and trained and watched TV when I could. You know I wasn't there that much so that's as much I can remember.
I had a brother from another mother with whom I played, trained, talk, and watched tv. He was a nice dog, we had a good time together his name was Joseph, we basically had the same routine because we were in the same family. He was a brown labrador and was a pretty big dog. My human American parents were sent to fight in Afghanistan.
One day the phone rang and a family of Colombia wanted me as their pet. They offered me and Joseph to a Colombian family, meaning that one of us was the chosen one. They chose me because I was smaller and more easy to take care of for the family I was going to. But to my surprise, another family chose him too. So off we went to Colombia.
When they were taking us to the to the airport I was thinking about how scary this could be and Joseph too, because we didn't know what part of the world we were going too. I was sad that I was leaving them because I wasn't going to see them and they were people who loved me, and I didn't know that if the place they were going to send me was going to be a place where they didn't love me or treat me good or even worse live in the streets, in which I would not even survive. Like one of those movies where dogs get lost and come back, well that was a big fear of mine, because I know if I get lost I'm not coming back.
We got to the airport and got through everything and they put us to sleep so we don't get too scared on the flight. I surely didn't feel anything. When I get to this new country named Colombia I am impressed because I got from an urban city to City full of green parts, many trees and all types of flora it was like a city merged with a jungle. Its name is Cali.
When we got on to the airport I was nervous when they were going to pick us up, because I didn't know anyone, and they were a lot of people. All the sounds of the squeaky bag's wheels sounding, all the sounds of the people in the airplane tapping the chairs and tapping the floor with their in desperation to get out of the airplane and go home. Man, it was like being at Times Square. I was stressed out and nervous the only thing I wanted was to go to our new home. Time passed so slow that I thought it went backward. It was so slow that I thought I've spent 3 days there, time passed until it was up. While Joseph and I waited in the waiting room, yes I know that sounds a little dumb, we got a visit from a drug dug in the airport to see if we carry any drugs but we didn't and he wished us luck for the time we are going to spend in Colombia, which is going to be for a long time. A man took us out from the waiting room, and there he was the man that was going to take care of us before we went our own separate ways, it was lieutenant Jaramillo Grandfather Carlos Jaramillo who picked us up.
There we spent two months, in a house of normal size of 2 floors that had a patio with the same routine and the same good old days: Eating, exercise, watching tv, and playing. The name of the man that took care of us was named Carlos Jaramillo as I mentioned earlier. I think we had the same routine because I think Carlos must have known of us before we arrived, that's why due to my inferring skills I thought we had the same routine.
The day came, it was time, I was going to meet my new family. I was sad I had to leave Joseph because he was my only friend, but I didn't get to know him so well. He was sad too but he murmured “Well Bubba, the future has something for us, so go and chase it. ”. I wish I could have known him a little bit more but destiny pulled as apart to be friends and so now we should go our own respective ways. I wished him luck “May the best be with you”, and gave him a Bro- fist, and off I went to start my journey.
There he was my new owner, a man of average height, strong, and bearded and a little guy who was my new brother he was a quiet and nice person because most of the time I spent with him, he didn't say anything but he was pretty nice to me because he was always caressing and saying if I was okay. From what I heard I was a surprise to my new mom, that came from a trip. I say goodbye to Carlos he was happy for me because he knew I was going to a nice place and have a good time, “Good luck Bubba” he grinned. I licked him in the face and went off with my new owners.
There I was going to my new home with my owners in a medium sized car from what I remember it was Toyota Corolla from 2005. While they were driving I got to see the other part of Cali: trees, houses, malls, big and small apartments, and obviously dogs which I can become friends with. It was an hour-long drive until we got home, from what I see we live near a river and in a park named El Sendero which is very cool because I have more space to hang out there. We parked and got everything ready for my stay. We entered to my new home which was the antepenultimate apartment in the condominium. It was fresh and had a lot of space, you could hear the frogs and feel the breeze and hear the branches of the trees moving due to the wind.
We get home and, and lord behold I have another little human brother which I can play with named Mike Irizarry, and he was very surprised and excited to see me. I take this to my surprise because I haven't seen someone so excited to meet me and that makes me happy, You can really see it in his eyes, he was Jumping of excitement and contemplating as if I'm his new favorite thing saying that I'm the cutest thing he's ever seen. Well after I got home I spent time with everybody and got to know the apartment which has 5 rooms and many fresh's parts to sit on. But still I was the surprise but I didn't know for who I thought it was for my little new brother, but what turns out is that I'm a present for his mom that is coming back for a trip. So I hung out with my new family until my new mom got home.
I waited a few hours but they told she was coming tomorrow so this was my tour day to get to know everyone and how things work around the house. The dawn of the pinkish figures gets out and starts a new day for me, the day I was going to know my human mom because she is the only one I don't know yet. For my knowledge and from what I remember I think the days the picked me up and met my mother was over the weekend. That same day I spent almost all the day in the house and got to know the park named El Senderito. I spent the day in my new favorite spot of the house, my new favorite spot was the sofa that was close to the window, the spot had the shape of a balcony but it was covered by bricks for safety because any of us could fall, coming back to the point this spot was my favorite because it was the freshest part of the house were all the wind came in, were you know the heat of the day wasn't going to be a problem. Another attribute I give to this place is that you can hear all the nature where the frogs, cicadas, and the branches of the trees moving sing to you in a peaceful melody, I tell you I didn't have any problem sleeping, it was as peaceful as the soothing waves of the ocean.
The day passed by and the time came, and so did the night everyone was anxious to see her. We sat watching tv until she arrived, I heard her wheel suitcase coming each time closer to the door and smelled her perfume aroma each time closer to the door which was a little stingy to my nose but sweet at the same time. Until the doorbell rang and my brothers went up to open the door, and there she was. My human mom, a woman with brown hair, brown eyes, nice face meaning that she has a nice round face and nice body, in others saying that she got nice strong legs and strong arms. When I saw her it was love at first glance she was surprised and happy to see me, and I knew she was happy to see me and I saw in her eyes that she liked dogs.
The only thing that came to her mind is that I was going to be difficult to take care of because we didn't live in a house where I can go anywhere, instead I lived in an apartment which was more little and have reduced space, but at all that didn't matter because I trained with marines, and I have all the manners of a good dog so I knew they didn't need to care about that, so it was okay. Everyone was happy to have me in their family, we wondered and talked all night until we went to sleep.
