The Bolster Trial
It was in 1987 when everybody in Newberry was consumed with the big uproar of the Bolster trial. Everyone called Eric Bolster the wife killer after his alluring wife, Laura was unexpectedly found dead at Salt lake. I was also very consumed with the Bolster trial as well, but let’s not get ahead of the story.
Eric Bolster was a very well put together man. He was the most eligible bachelor in Newberry. He was very muscular with his biceps stretching the sleeves of his shirt and veins popping out. He also, owned a business that involved real estate. His hair was brown with a silky look to it and it was perfect. He had light blue eyes and his lips were so red and luscious. His face had the perfect built in jawline as if it was sculpted. He always wore a suit and tie that fit him superbly and carried around a briefcase. His wife, Laura Bolster was the most gorgeous girl in the town. She had long curly brown hair that was always in curls. Her eyes were so big and brown. Her cheeks were rosie red. She was very skinny and dainty. Her nails were always painted, and she wore tight fit dresses that showed her curves along with 3 inch heels. She was the perfect wife that people imagine. She woke up, worked out, ironed Eric’s clothes, got ready, cooked breakfast before Eric left for work, went shopping, cleaned the house, and cooked dinner for Eric before he returned home. Their big sumptuous house had 5 bedrooms and 6 ½ bathrooms. They didn’t have any kids, although, Eric wanted lots of them. He always dreamed of having a big family since he had a big family growing up, but Laura didn’t. This caused some troubles in their marriage; she was satisfied with the life she already had.
They started dating when they were only 16. The whole town knew them from the start of their epic love life. Everybody wanted to have a love like theirs, but they didn’t know that Laura didn’t want kids and that caused Eric and Laura to fight. During the year 1987 I had just been working as an attorney for two years and Eric and Laura’s life became private to Newberry. A few weeks after their life had just become private the newspaper announced that a man that was fishing on Salt lake found Laura’s body washed up on the bank of the lake. She was strangled due to the rope marks on her neck, stabbed because of the marks on her stomach, and shot in the head because of the hole in her forehead. The newspaper said that she had probably been at the lake for five days. Everybody in the town automatically thought Eric did it since he was the husband that had differences with his wife. They brought Eric in for questioning and of course he told them he did not kill his wife and said that she went on vacation for some time. Eric soon was arrested for the murder of Laura Bolster. He was put on trial and told the exact same thing to everybody in the courtroom.
He ended up hiring me to be his attorney. As me and Eric worked together throughout the trial I come to realize that he was actually innocent. He told me his story from day one and nothing has changed about it. His alibi told to me was that he was at work the night she was killed and his boss and coworkers justified that. There was no possible evidence that he killed his own wife, yet people kept testifying against him. So, Eric and I went through court numerous times to prove that he was innocent. I kept making great points to the court about why he is innocent and the jury started to think so too. As the trial kept getting longer and longer I noticed he was very stressed about all of this. I noticed that he had a big heart and missed his wife dearly. We grew closer and closer as the trial kept going on and our relationship began to evolve into more than just a business relationship. He kept making tiny little passes at me with his charming self. Soon we talked everyday while he was in jail about business and personal things. He told me I was pretty and intelligent. He liked me for helping and caring about him throughout this chaos. I began to fall harder and harder for him everyday from his way of words, charming looks, and perplexing personality. He told me if I can get him out of jail he would run away with me and marry me right then.
Nobody knew about mine and Eric’s relationship because of the trial. People would think I am just covering for him since I was madly in love with him. Finally, the day came to see if he was innocent or guilty. As we were sitting in the courtroom with our palms sweating and faces turning blue from holding our breath so long the judge ruled him innocent. So we got out of that courtroom and ran off to get married. We traveled to a neighboring town and married that day. I had become Mrs. Bolster. It didn’t seem real, yet everything about that day felt perfect as if it was a dream. I had the perfect job, an extraordinary husband, and soon a little family. We ended up staying and living just outside of Newberry so people wouldn’t judge us. He went to work in real estate, while I was a stay at home wife like Laura was. About a month later things were still going good and I found out I was pregnant. I told Eric that I was pregnant and he was ecstatic. Nine months later a healthy baby boy named Noah came into our lives. The days grew longer as I took care of Noah. Noah consumed my life and that made Eric very jealous. Once Noah turned one, Eric started to beat me because I didn’t give him attention like I did Noah. Eric came home one day and beat me until I was almost dead and then the truth come out. Eric had killed Laura.
