The Duck Rescue
It was a warm, sunny day in July when Nathan decided to go fishing. He went to his favorite pond that his dad took him to all the time when he was a little boy and because no one else goes there. He set up his bucket of bait and his two fishing poles so he had a better chance of catching some fish. Three hours and one bucket piled with fish he decided to it time to go home. While Nathan was packing up, he heard a strange sound coming from behind a patch of tall grass. Nathan always cared for the different wildlife in that pond so he decided to check it out and make sure everything was alright.
He set his stuff down and quickly walked over there to see something horrible. There was a family of ducks but Nathan only saw babies and no mom.”That’s unusual the mom usually doesn’t leave her babies while there this young and they would have followed her if she did leave,” Nathan thought to himself. He decided to look until he found the mom but when he found the mom duck, he was speechless at the sight. She was laying there not moving with her eyes closed and Nathan quickly went to her to try and save her but it was too late. Then he realised that these baby ducks couldn’t survive on their own.
Nathan took them to a vet for a quick check-up to make sure that they were all right, which they were. Two stores down there was a pet store and he decided to walk down there to buy the things baby ducks will need. He bought food, a little carrier for when they ride out in the car, and some toys. Nathan called up an adoption agency on the way home to see what he needed to do to adopt and take care of these baby ducks until they were old enough to be on their own. When he got to his house, he brought the baby ducks inside and gave them a nice big bath in the sink.
They splashed and quaked while playing with their new toys Nathan got them. Nathan started picking them up out of the sink with a towel and put them in a bath full of water. He could feel how soft and fluffy they are when dry. It was six o’clock in the morning when Nathan heard something break and a bunch of littles quacks. He jumped right up . He ran out the room and saw the ducks in the bathroom trying to get their toys and the soap jar was shattered all on the floor.
Nathan gave the ducks their toys and put them in the bathtub full of water. After the that he realized that he should duck-proof the house and he continued to raise the ducks safely until they could be on their own. It’s been two months since he has had the ducks and everyday it has been demanding. Taking care of ducklings is wearisome but he loves them. As they were starting to get older, it became easier. They started to listen and calm down, even though they had times they got too excited over things.
It was almost time for them to go back out and live on their own in nature. Nathan still wanted to teach them more but he knew that they could figure it out on their own now and it was time to let them go. People, like his friends and family, thought it was strange that he was so hung up on these ducks and was having trouble letting them go. Nathan knows that ducks aren’t typical pets and he isn’t trying to have them has pets but he has grown attached to them. He raised them. When he was getting into bed, he looked over at the ducks laying in their bed.He didn’t want to let them go. Nathan tried to come up with a way to get them ready for the wild because he is scared they might not fully be ready.
For the next few months Nathan spent everyday getting them ready to go out into their natural habitat. When they were ready he took them to a wildlife national park to be their new home. Nathan would go once a week to check in on them and they were always excited to see him. Nathan had an amazing experience raising the ducks and he never thought it was something that he would end up doing. Since he loved raising and taking care of those ducks so much, Nathan decided to make a career out of it. Ever since he quit is last job he has been struggling to find a job choice that filled him with joy and satisfied him. Which his last job didn’t. Nathan decided to become an animal caretaker.
Nathan takes in rescued animals and brings them back to good health. When they are ready they go back to where they belong or to a shelter. He takes in all kinds of animals so he moved to bigger land and had everything for every type of animal he knew he would take in. It might cost him a lot but he loves what he does and it’s well worth it to him. Nathan even met the love of his life doing this job. A woman who loves animals and taking care of them just as much as he does. This is how Nathan’s life turned out to be just by taking in some ducklings and he wouldn’t have it any other way.
