Episode 1 “who knew trains could fly?!”
It had to be at least 3:00 A.M I found my eyelids falling lower by the second, my eyes shifted to the figure that sat before me. The haze of the dim glow from the faint lights blacken the silhouette furthermore, my hand lifted making its way to my face almost moving on its own, rubbing my eyes as I laid back listening to the music that was muffled behind the constant sound of a one sided conversation, peering out the window that was left ajar I watched as rain drops flew in and land on the plant that sat on the sill. The curtains swayed with the breeze almost floating endlessly, “Hey!?......Zero are you even listening?”. I snapped back into reality landing my gaze on the now shouting silhouette, “Yeah, Yeah stop all that yellin will ya?”. “I wouldn’t be yellin if you were paying attention.” Letting out a soft sigh he fell back and slumped in the chair. When Faz said “could you help me” I didn’t think it would take all night, like seriously cut the attitude. “You know Faz you whine a lot for you to be so tough.” Clasping my hands together I started making kissy faces at him giggling, “It's all fun and games to you. Everything is just some big joke.” Scoffing lowly, I rolled my eyes sitting up “and what’s that supposed to mean.” He sat there in utter silence His tone tensed up slipping his hand through his jet-black hair, “exactly what I said.” Faz lifted his hand in the direction of the window silently suggesting I leave. “Calm down I’m just trying to keep the mood up.” I said chuckling kissing my teeth, I flashed a smile while he sat in front of me rubbing his forehead as he stared daggers into me.
“Just go already.” As the words fell from his lips, he covered his face snickering to himself, I stood up from the black leather couch grabbing my belongings. “Whatever you’ll need me” Faz shot me a look his hand remaining in the same position as before, in a rush I climbed out the window knocking over the plant that once sat there, stepping outside onto the rusty old balcony and bits of broke clay, “Damn it.” I mumbled before dropping to my knees scampering to pick up the pieces of broken clay, I ducked back into the window. Drops of rain shattered against both my hoody and exposed skin.” Hey I-.”
“Woah woah woah wasn’t he just in the room?” “Shut up and just listen.”
“Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me” mentally face palming myself I rolled back into the room landing on the flooring, rubbing my shoulder “yep…next time, I'm just going to climb on in." I stood up placing the pieces of broken pottery on the table that sat just to the left of the window. In one quick motion I ducked out the opening once more. With no hesitation I walked down the stairs quickly making my way out of the alley I was once in; the bright neon holographic billboards blinded me as my ears was suddenly filled with the chatter of overlapping conversations, along with the unbearable music that began to dance ever so tenderly on my nerves almost drawing me in, the faded smell of rubber bled into my lungs grasping onto me just as a snake would. Then came the subtle hints of spices and herbs: ones similar to back home with a constant wave of cigarette smoke and booze.  The screen slowly phased out to a small village on the mountain side.
“Mom?” a soft voice whispered out. The calming sounds of rushing water and faint humming was all I could remember hearing, “yes mooncake?” Her delicate hand pushed my hair behind my ear as her hand made its way down my gentle skin stopping at my cheek. “Why don’t we live down there?”  Pointing to the city at the foothill of the mountain, her once soothing voice began to distort. Shaking up the once calming memory, I watched as it went up in flames, I found myself in the hallway the smell of thick heavy smoke grabbed and strangled my lungs choking and bringing me to my knees. I scampered like a wounded animal to my mother's bedside “Mooncake.... is that you?” Lifting herself up she turned her head in the direction in which the sound came from.  Taking her hand into mine, just like she had done before her soft hands pushed my hair behind my ear kissing my now exposed forehead “Ronin.... I don’t have much time left, please.... I.” She covered her mouth as she wheeze, "Please my final wi-” The voice that could calm the earth turned into nails on a chalk board, A coughing fit which was followed by the blood and soon her demise. The flames threaten to burn my skin, craving it almost, I fled out the place I once called home and into the night. The screen phases back into the present.
“Oh my god that’s so sad” “hey least she wasn't killed by demons like in that one show”
There I stood in the light drizzle that paint a thin layer of water on my sweater “Hey Zero!” A voice called out from behind, “Hey Zero!”  it called out again. I looked up glancing around for who was calling me. I threw my hood up as I slowly picked up my pace, my eyes shifted back and forth through the crowd scanning for the person. I heard the footsteps quicken in pace before I found myself inside the crowd pushing through it, I suddenly felt the presence of a hand on my arm “Zero did you not hear me calling your name?” I snapped around looking at her “Heh no of course not” pushing her off from me “I must’ve had my music up so loud I didn’t hear you” she pouted puffing out her bottom lip. “If I knew any better, I would think you were ignoring me.” she giggled in her bubbly and delicate tone, “c'mon Rezin it aint like that.” her gaze landed on mines “So I'll see you at the afterlife?” shaking my head laughing to myself “Sure I'll stop by the afterlife.” Her smile could light up a city she as squirrelled with excitement “Nova see you then” pushing past the rest of the people I heard her voice belt out “awe c'mon your no fun! you're not staying for the celebration!?”  Turning back, I smiled and waved causing her to smile and wave back “suit yourself!” she huffed out and just like that I vanished into the night as I made my way off the city streets and continued to walk to the nearby train station. The roaring laughter from the streets could be heard all into the night, the once light drizzle begins to clear up allowing the rays of moon light to pierce through the clouds that once blurred out its light, I quickened my pace pulling out my phone. I stared at the screen as I murmured to myself while I walked to the train station. Coming to the entrance my boots clicked against the tile floor which laid beneath my feet skipping a few steps here and there as I made my way down the stairs, I was accompanied by the local stray kitten stopping just Behind a holographic yellow line alongside me.
Glancing around, I inhaled deeply the raunchy scent of mold, old food and mildew. Piercing my nose, I shuttered at the very smell of it. I heard rustling of an old newspaper; catching my attention I peered over my Shoulder watching the wind share a dance with it. Getting tired of standing I made my way over to the wore down wooden bench that sat to the left of me, the stray made its way alongside me “I guess I could just take you home with me.” I said leaning down and extending my hand to it, it began to rub its head along my hand purring as it circled around me. Picking the kitten up I examined it, before placing her on my lap running my hand down her course shiny coat…….I must’ve dozed off, before I knew it, I awoke to the sound of the incoming train. The over deafening tone of the horn blared out into my ears I quickly shook off any doziness I had left in me.
I stood up placing her on the ground glancing down at her “I suppose I should name you huh?…hmmm how about Yuki?” She looked at me circling my feet purring “Yuki it is then” I said giggling to myself, sounds of the train began to flood into my ears. As I found myself behind the yellow line when the voice of the announcer came blaring through the blown-out speakers of the station. “Now arriving at Hope Station, next stop, Makko Station.” The mirage of people washed over me, as I passed through them like a fish swimming against the stream, I eventually found a seat in the packed train and not a moment, the sudden jolt of train moving again. I tried to relax despite being shoulder to shoulder to so many people, but I felt something rise in the back of my neck, realizing it to be a small child playing with cracks in the seating. I shut my eyes listening to the overlapping conversations, the echos from the tunnel, and the constant tapping of feet.
I slipped my hand in my pocket, but my hand was only met with the embrace of my dark denim jeans my eyes flew open as my blood practically ran cold while promptly face palmed myself “you’ve got to kidding me” I murmured to myself. Reaching back into my pocket for my phone I dialed Faz’s number, the phone vibrated a few times before the call was sent to voicemail. Rolling my eyes, I sent him a text instead. “heyyy I know I just left from over there, but I left my keys could you bring them to me?”, Delivered. The messages sat open on my phone; my thoughts were interrupted by the voice of the announcer once more “We’ll arriving…. arriving at M-M..Ak-ko station sho-shor-r-ort-rtly” the lights suddenly began flickering and flashing violently before me, the faint sound of buzzing drummed lowly in my ears, along with distasteful scent of metallic compounds and rubber. Panicky voices murmured among the passengers; I didn’t understand why people get so worked up in moments like this. Bowing my head, I tried to tune it out but just as quickly it started it would soon end, the train violently erupted as pieces of metal and fiberglass flew before anyone could react.
There I laid in the collapsed tunnel part of my leg and back crushed by the rubble; fire smothered my already charred corpse’s. Voices blurred in the background, moans and screams filled my remaining consciousness “Please... I don’t want to die” pleads and weeps seeming spoke from the rubble, I wanted it to all stop somehow even now their screams forever implanted in my mind, as the light dimmed out the familiar voice of my mother called out to me. Her hand extending out and reaching for mines “You know I really should be dead.”. The screen faded out into a series of unfocused shots of zero’s life with some heartfelt song. “I don’t know about you but I’m definitely adding that to the watch list.”.
