This I Believe
I believe in waking up at 3:50 in the morning for the sole purpose of admiring the purple-black, bruising sky. I believe in kissing knees and shoulders before lips, in eleven-minute guitar solos, body modification, in wearing only Chuck Taylors, and in buying clothes online. I believe in falling asleep on boats, in music being different colours, and in spelling words like favourite and theatre the way that British people do, with an “ou” instead of an “o” and “re” instead of “er.” I believe in high school sweethearts, the ones that peck each other in the hallway and hold hands and are always happy being so absorbed in one another. I believe in going ice skating when the Zamboni’s out, in going to the pet store and naming all the animals, like you’re going to have them all someday in a menagerie, and in re-reading school-assigned novels. Lastly, I believe in myself, but only occasionally…and that is about to change.
