Table for One MAG
She opened cabinet after cabinet
hurling out pots and pans
the impact making the countertop scream
He stood by, helpless
chiseled face filled with worry
hands offering a night
to remember in return
for the broken shards
of her heart
On the cutting board
knife danced along pieces of plump chicken
skimmed the potatoes
and serenaded the onion;
slowly the room became teary-eyed.
The pot simmered in silence,
chicken soup flattered by
the stove's sweet flames
cooking up an aromatic romance
The table was set for one
Next to the plate sat her favorite drink
now poisoned from last night
the lonely hours spent
battered, broken
while he frolicked in the darkness
