Dancing Is a Healing Therapy
Dancing has helped me deal with my emotions when passing through hard times. I lost my father at the age of 16 and I thought the world stopped. But I was wrong, it was a new beginning. My life changed and so did the circumstances. I was living an extremely stressed life having to deal with the trauma, work and school. It was only after I started dancing again that my mind was finally clear.
For me, the dance studio is my second home and because the circumstances in my real home had changed drastically, I found peace at the studio. I’ve been dancing for 12 years now and when I dance I leave the traumatised world behind me and create a new one where letting go of negative emotions is my relief in life.
Even though the passing away of my father left a tragic impact on my life, it made me a better dancer. I learnt how to share my feelings with the audience and dance with a greater passion. Now I do not only dance because I enjoy it, I do it because dance for me is like a drug, addictive: it helps me forget and feel better.
Even out of traumatic experiences, good often follows. Emotions in dance are highly important and I learnt how to project them because of hard times. But it was dance which brought me back up to my feet to start living a new life and seeing it in a new perspective. For me dance is healing therapy.
