Theatre Camp
Standing up on stage was like I was standing in front of the whole country. There were so many people there. The whole class and I were doing everything we could so that we wouldn’t mess up. I knew I was ready. Acting is what I wanted to pursue and I am going to do it.
When it came to the day of the event everyone was shaking like it was 35 degrees and wondering the same thing -Would we be able to make it through the night?
Theatre camp was fun and the whole group was excited, yet nervous, on the last day of camp. Everybody was scrambling around, getting the set pieces onstage so we could rehearse with the props. The play was called “The Restless Quest”. It was about a princess who couldn’t fall asleep and asked everybody in town to make a story to get her to sleep. All these stories were based off fairy tales and the one I was in was called “Cutie Lou and the Beast”.
“RAWR! You have trespassed by my home! NOW I WILL EAT YOU!” I yelled (I was the beast in the scene). Everyone laughed at that line. I can’t believe how much fun I am having. This seems like it would be fun in middle school.
“No please don’t. I am only looking for a present for my daughter. She’s turning sixteen today.” said the clockmaker.
Rehearsing the play was exciting, yet exhausting. I was trying my best not to screw up and it went well. I knew all my lines and I couldn’t wait for the play. The only thing I was worried about was the dancing. I was as nervous as a singer auditioning for a tv show.
Every year at this camp the group is separated (by scenes) into 2 groups. They rehearse their own dance and then we also have the whole group make a dance. The dance teacher that year was a woman named Maria. The reason I say that year is because for the past 2-3 years it’s been a teacher named Miss Rhonda. Maria couldn’t be there the last couple years is because she was diagnosed with cancer. She had to stay by the hospital so Miss Rhonda took that place for a little while. Anyway, the dances always happen either between scenes, or all of them after the play (that year was all after). First up was my group, then the second group, and last was the whole group. Everyone was having as much fun as a baby with a ball.
Oh my gosh, I hope I don’t screw up these dances. That would be embarrassing. I thought as we were doing the dances. It was nerve wracking standing up there and doing something you rehearsed for only a week. You wouldn’t know if it was going to be cool looking enough.
“WHEW! I can’t believe we did it. That was so much fun.” I said to my mom as we were talking on stage and I was showing her around the high school auditorium.
“You were amazing up there. That was really good.” My mom complimented me.
After we were done looking around we stopped so I could say thank you to my teacher (Rosanne).
When we were talking to her she said something to me that really meant a lot to me. She said “You know something? I think you are an amazing actor. You really get into your roles and I think we will all see you in some movies in the future. Keep following this career. You are fabulous.”
“Wow, thank you. That means a lot coming from you.” I say back to her.
Rosanne is one of the best teachers. She knows how to make you feel better and it was so amazing hearing those words. I could think of a better summer. She really inspired me to be an actor, and that’s what I want to do. I knew I wanted to be an actor. That’s what I will try for.
