the clock song
Tick Tock Tick Tock,
The clock persists on,
Every minute piercing through my heart,
A regret for every second gone.
How could I have let so much time pass,
And say all the things I said?
Leaving an important relationship,
To be a cold corpse: dead.
I cling to a telephone,
Stringing words over the line,
But he will not hear my apologies,
He does not have the time.
I don’t know what one is to do,
Or how to act or say or feel,
Everything that was once true,
Now seems like an old movie reel.
As the scenes materialize before my eyes,
I know it was no fault of mine,
But if “I’m sorry” could bring him back,
I would surely use that line.
Now like dust upon old photographs,
Forgotten empty memories,
We went from being best friends,
To our own worst enemies.
We each grew separately,
Into unrecognizable people and faces,
Though I regret losing a part of myself,
It’s not like I could forget this.
So the clock persists on,
With its tick and its tock,
No matter how hard you try,
You can never turn back the clock.
