Metal Sculpture
The cars race down the highway to nowhere
at break-neck speeds, racing,
racing, racing, until—
But what happens hardly matters, does it?
Everyone says that the race
is the important part.
The deformed metal sculpture at the end of the road,
which is museum-worthy art
that can only be made by accident,
is not the important part of the tale.
Nor does it matter what happened
to the people who made the sculpture.
It is the race: speeding,
uncaring, heartless, free,
