The garden must have all kinds of flowers - APJ Abdul Kalam

Opening my eyes again I see

The blanket of ashes

Covering the streets

Of pompeii That were once so clean

Unaware of the danger lurking

All were indulged

In the chores working

Soon came the day

It gobbled us up

The mountain we loved

The peak that was highlighted above

The black mist fogged my eyes

All families and allies

Rescuing from the curse in disguise

As the sky is now filled with ember and cries

Alas! The molten metal

Swam down the hill

Ashes crushing life like petals

Breathes that would kill

Time stopped for the city

And it's people

Corpses scattered around

Grey coloured and disheveled

Today I visit this sorrowful city again

Seeing the distressing state

I'm reminded of the haunting pain

Caused by the hell's fire crossing it's gate

Now this once a great city

Is drawing heaps of pity

Nature once again proves to thee

It can always end us you and me

The author's comments:

POMPEII'S MISFORTUNE revolves around the theme of time travelling. Giving the reader a feel of how it would've felt witnessing the city's tragedy. The shock and the distressing feeling that people suffered from. This poem is just a speculation about the environment and the vibe the place and it's people had. One more thing to note is that people in Pompeii were not aware that mount vesuvius was a volcano thus "the mountain they loved".

Thank you for reading my work, looking forward for your comments.

I like the way you wrote it, as if you were there. It's very interesting
