Something New-ish
maybe i should have known by the way you looked at me
or the way you laughed at my bad jokes
or the way you always seemed interested in what i had to say
though it had only crossed my mind every few months
i never let them stay long
to me they were just too scary
but we took all the time that we needed
the perfect amount for us
now when i think of you i smile
a smile as large as the eyes can see
i catch myself staring at you
it’s become a bad habit that i can’t fix
that’s only because you make me the happiest
the happiest i’ve been in a long time
all i want to do is thank you but i’m not sure it would add up
from now on we will only grow
i hope our “something new-ish” is something special
