One Kid
One kid, that is me.
I look around, nobody like me.
I am Me? That is me.
They all arrive.
I look around, but nobody is brown.
Mexican pride is in my blood.
I am the black sheep.
All around I see, but not me.

“One Kid” is about “me” being one of if not the only hispanic kid in an honors class. The
setting would be the first day of classes. I sometimes feel like the “Black Sheep” in my classes. I
can’t speak to anyone in my native language because in reality there is nobody, I can’t share
anything that is culturally significant to me because nobody will understand.
