identity: who am i?

identity, fragile as a word or a feel,
a reflection of who we are.
we express ourselves.
even when we hide
& keep our true selves busy,
hibernating as bears in the dark,
the winter, the untouched cave;
imagine how much brighter the stars
shine without layers of misperceptions.
we grow when it’s safe—spring
showers uncover buried flowers.
summer rays blossom fullness.
uniqueness
breaks down the barriers between us;
embrace our identities
to find beauty in every person.
