The Colors of Dawn
Bright orange and pink:
Two colors I never believed would hold such meaning.
My journey begins upon a tranquil river.
With an oar in my hand,
I push through the water, strong and free.
As the sun ascends,
Carefully painting a canvas in colors of dawn,
I look out over the gentle stream of the Allegheny
Toward my coach's boat -
The boat that protects one of my favorite people
From the unknowns of life.
February 9, 2022:
My North Star was absent,
My trajectory was altered.
A single aberrant cell ruled the kingdom of his brain,
Overtaking his many skills,
As fast as a lightning bolt strikes through the sky.
My journey on the water,
A beautiful ride, quickly turned ugly.
The gorgeous, bright colors of the sky
Act now as a burden on my shoulders.
The boat that I put so much trust into,
Did protect him from life’s challenges,
But he was vulnerable to his own body.
Bright orange and pink:
Two colors I never believed I would hate.
