Two of the Same
For a name etched on my scalp,
only the heavens can name me.
For the curse stained on the souls of my feet,
only the hells can read me.
To look up, and feel the tears of the atmosphere
showering down on the corpse of humanity.
The mother begs to wipe us clean;
to make right the wrongs enforced.
Finally, the sun is down, the moon welcomes it in its embrace.
Ever so gentle it teases the eye, uncovering a new core.
Embodying the never ending turn of the day.

Dear Editors,
I am submitting my free verse poem "Two of the Same" (90 words) for your consideration for Teen Ink. This poem is about the dysphoria felt both internally and externally by those who are gender non-confirming and the shame imposed on such an identity. It is my testimony to this experience, as a non-binary first generation Chilean American. I am a senior in high school in Oregon, and appreciate your consideration.
