What it is to be a Leader
To lead isn’t to always necessarily be in the front
Or to micromanage everything else to be done
There are days where you and I will lead from behind
And fight to the very end for what’s yours and mine
But as much as discipline, sacrifice, and motivation resides in a leader
The quality that sums up a leader is love
Love for yourself and those around you
To show them anything is possible
So when talking about leading, it won’t be about what you’ve gotten done for the team
But for how those around you saw themselves closer to their dream
And this is what true leadership really mean

Being a captain of my basketball team, leadership has been a joy and a struggle. All my life, I’ve been blessed with natural leadership which has allowed me to bring teams together. Most recently, my team has gone through a lot to get to where we are now and my coach has helped me through a lot of the leadership process. The challenges of teammates of different personalities and perspectives have been a rollercoaster but, I wouldn’t trade it for anything. My coach preaches that love is a connector of everything. Whether it’d be hate or sacrifice, love is the root cause of everything and that has helped me do everything in my power to push myself and those around me effectively.
