an ode to my sister
Although your skin may not remain gentle
I hope that you will
I know that when time catches up to you it will be hard
And I know that the dust on the blinds will feel like anchors
But please let sunlight pour in your room like gentle honey
Let it brush your skin the way mom did when you’d cry
Let yourself rest below the stars even though I know you wish for everything
Disregard the pain that comes with age, instead peer outside and take inspiration from the trees
For their strength is only heightened with every passing year
Let no amount of words weather you down
For you're not someone meant for a life that dull
I’ll forever carry each lesson you’ve taught me
As an older sister, you’ve well surpassed your title
Thank you for eternity
ps - do you think we’re sisters in every universe? (I think so)

growing up my household wasn't great and I only had my sister to depend on. I don't think I ever realized how much strength it took to raise a kid 3 years younger than her and having to deal with every other problem we had in the house, all the while facing her own. To this day I still learn from her and I don't think I could have been blessed with a greater role model. If somehow you stumble across this, you didn't!
