Tainted Spinach of 2006
Three California Counties
With Green Spinach bounties
Tainted with toxins
Putting people in coffins
These leafy greens
Were leafy means
Farms are too near
The sanitation practices unclear
26 states and 199 cases
And 3 dead bodies buried in places
Severe in Wisconsin
The virus thrives
And continues to feast
off innocent lives
Until a recall was ordered
and the situation aborted

I wrote this poem as part of a Creative Writing assignment. Our teacher told us to write a poem about an event that happened on our birth year. My birth year was 2006, so I decided to write about the E. coli O157:H7 outbreak out that happened at that time.
