let me live
let me
wake, with the sun on
my lids, rays caressing
and warm.
let me
stroll, barefoot through
dewy grass, the slippery dawn
between my toes.
let me
indulge, eat
ice cream for breakfast
and pancakes for lunch.
let me
sob into pillows,
or laugh in your face, my cries
polluting the air.
let me
dance,
in the rain, catch snowflakes
pink tongue to fresh white.
let me,
screw my life. dye my hair.
pierce my tongue.
and at night,
when stars appear
when crickets sing
and sleep descends silently
upon the world,
let me,
just let me live.
