We are they who disobey
Deep and secret below
Good girls and boys.
We are they who strive for perfection
And chafe
And rebel without any risk.
We are they who wear sweatpants
Over jeans to gym
Because although uncomfortable
We retain our jeans but give you your
PE dress.
We are they who write our graffiti
In the login bar of the school computer
Pre-highlighted and waiting for the single keystroke
To erase. Even then it's nothing more than
School Sucks
134 days 'til summer
hi.
We are they who smile and nod
Sir and Ma'am
Yes or no
Spewing our poison under our breath
With blank faces
When everyone's back is turned.
We are they who dream of protests
And rebellion
And know we couldn't make ourselves take a single step
Toward the dark side
No matter how enticing
We see others' consequences.
We are they whose fondest ambition
Is to flaunt the droned directions
And fill in the C circle halfway.

I've seen all of the scenarios mentioned in the poem actually happen.

This is so true. I do some of this. Most of my classmates do all of this.

Wow, really good poem. I could recognize just about everything in it from my own school; I like how you looked at these common behaviors and went a little deeper.

Oops. I just realized that there's a mistake- I meant to write 'flout' in the second to last line, not 'flaunt'.

I can really relate to this! Nearly everything mentioned has happened at my school. Keep writing, it's very good. Would you mind reading some of my work? Thank you!

wow,

this poem really made me think. when i first saw the title for it, i thought it would be just about school and trying to be the best. but i know i see it is way more in-depth than i thought.

i like how you've seen all these situations actually occur. you have a way of making it seem vivid; like we are actually there seeing it happen.

your style of writing is truly magnificent. i hope i hear more from you very soon!

check out some of my work, too if you'd like. thx for posting your writing!

keep writing! (:
