Mother
You said you tried so hard
To open your heart
To feel some warmth
To keep things the same
You could’ve tried harder
To keep him away
To keep me sane
To love me in the same way
But whoever said you loved at all?
Maybe it was all a show
To keep your name
Your family
And your friends
I needed you to be there
To care and protect
To do the things written in the unspoken contract
But no,
You broke it
And he broke me
And you watched it as it happened
Just stood by in silence
Not a sound or a peep did you make
And you wonder why I didn’t want to wake
You could’ve helped me
Kept him away
But you decided that
I wasn’t worth the fight
Your own flesh and blood
So, he broke me
Beat me
Made me nothing
And I ripped myself to pieces
Constantly reminded of
What he did
And what you didn’t
You said you tried so hard
But you didn’t try at all
