When the End Came
We did not hear the noises of fire
of explosions, of guns, of breaking glass
the end did not come with shouting and anger
not even with tears, for me.
Across the country
people sang
people spoke
people cried
without violence.
Our end was quiet and warm
trapped in embraces
Sad but together
Humanity saving
its best for last.
