Baby Boy
Oh, you’re almost here!
Your grainy image in the monitor
Fill my eyes with joy
I’m excited to teach you
All that I know
And help you transition into
Something greater than what you already are
I can’t wait for your first steps,
your first smile,
your first words
Your mom is amazing
She works at my school
And has your picture right on her desk
Your dad is a chef
With a patriotic heart
And lots of love to possess
Who knows what you’ll look like
Blue eyes or brown?
Big ears or small?
We’ll soon find out
Not much longer now
I’ll always be here for you
For guidance
For love
Oh, you’re almost here!

This poem is very dear to me because I have never had a niece or nephew before, and I just wanted to say in my poem all the things I want to do when he is here, and that I will always take care of him. Hopefully, this inspires people to get out of their comfort zone and start writing pieces about something very dear to them like a family member who passed away or something similar.
