Intertwined

I remember dreaming
That our shaking shadows met
They danced, gracefully, through the heat
Eminating from flames of passion
*
And it was nice
*
Then embers began burning out
Our shadows bled into the midnight ash
Indistinguishable in the cold night
*
When a dull light flickered back
Your shadow was gone
*
It had drifted far from mine
Never again to intertwine
But with the shadow of a stranger
*
This was a nightmare all along
