"No one really understands each other. We're all just stuck inside ourselves." Aza, Turtles All the Way Down

Yes, I know she's prettier

Of course, she looks sweet

Her body is small and skinnier

Her hair is perfect cut and neat

Maybe if I wore more makeup

Maybe if I wore a dress

If I wasn't always judged

Would she look comparable any less?

My eating, I could reduce

It wouldn't hurt me

Girl standards I could induce

Then who would I be?

I line my eyes with shadows

Cut my hair punk-rock

Sunk myself in the shallows

Gave up to the shock

I know it don't matter, but then why does this jealousy

No matter how I ignore it, just get to me?

The author's comments:

do you ever feel like everyone else, even your friends, are simply better and more good-looking then you? even though you know you shouldn't care, it makes you envious. this poem speaks to that
