The First Day
The first day I held you, you cried,
Especially when your mother died,
I ended up raising you on my own,
I didn’t care; you were free to roam,
The first day you were hurt, I was about to panic,
For if something happened to you, I would go manic,
I ended up tending to your wound,
When I was done, you got up and loomed,
The first day you went to school,
I took a picture, you said 'Dad you look so cool!'
When you went to collage; I was so proud,
Then you threw your hat with the rest of the crowd,
I know my end is near,
Please have no fear,
I have been waiting, don't call it harm,
To hold my son in my arms.
