Daddy's Womb MAG

April 23, 2008
By Anonymous

i asked my father if i could swim,
and he said that i would drown.
The Sea would imprison me – he said
if my feet had left the ground.

So i walked out to the water,
and cried out – how ’bout now!
He said, a little bit further, Son,
and then you’ll leave the ground.

i stepped on sand then stone,
from hollow ground to sturdy.
The sky was at my level as I
gazed at the birdie.

The Sea brought me a new idea,
the urge to flee to the high.

i asked my Father if i could fly,
and he said, sure, Son – go try.

i jumped as high as i could.
Still, i landed on the ground.
i saw my Father pull on a chain,
then i knew that i was bound.

I agree with the fact that a childs imagination can run wild sometimes, remember, we were all a child at one point! But you are still not explaining the controling parent issue! The child has this imagination but when he questions his dad on the matter, he tells him no. A controling parent! Aren't I right?

Sorry "WriterFighter," but i have to disagree w/ u. Sometimes a kid's imagination can be a little too extreme, and most of the time, a parent needs to step in and steer that kid in the right direction. Im so lucky u dont know me cuz u would want to hurt me for commenting on ur comment

Almost everyone is a slave to something, be it their own emotional desires or an external force. I feel like a slave, and I take it this person does too.

Beautiful poem! It captures the relationship between this father and son in a brief moment at the end: it was very unexpected and it all built up until that point. Great job! Could you comment on some of my poems? Thanks!

Writer's block, meet writer's hammer.- Me on a frustrating day.

Very well structured. Ha, that sounds so critical, but I really appreciate that in a poem. It's not just all about what it says, but how it sounds. You made those words flow, and you made me feel something. Hope to see more in the future.

i loved it.it really shows how people can help you in hard times ,but also how much they keep you bound.its a contrast in itself. keep writing ,i hope to see you in and your work in bookstores.
